Atelier Circulaire is pleased to announce the presentation of Julie Bellavance on Friday, November 19, at 5pm, at Space 517.
The recipient of the 2020 Grant for Emerging Artists in Printmaking will discuss her research into the representation of a collection of small minerals. For a year, the artist explored their physical characteristics, their textures, their layers, their transparency through experiments in drawing on limestone. In a poetic back and forth between geological language and formal study, Julie Bellavance will explain her project in which the refinement of drawing serves a sensitive approach that brings together the lithographic process and mineralogy.
A native of Victoriaville, Julie Bellavance received her MFA from Laval University in 2018. Her love for lithography led her to pursue the Printer Training Program at the Tamarind Institute in the United States in 2019-2020. She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in Quebec, France, Germany and Scotland. She has participated in creative residencies in Val David, Trois-Rivières as well as in Germany, in Eichstätt, in the summer of 2019. Her works are part of various public collections in Quebec and internationally such as the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec, the Sammlung Lithographie Eichstätt in Germany and the Fairfield University Art Museum in the United States. The recognized quality of his work has allowed her to print for artists such as Paryse Martin (Quebec), Martin Bureau (Quebec) and Stephanie Mercado (Los Angeles).
