Ève Debigaré (she/they) is the recipient of the François-Xavier Marange Grant 2025!
Artistic Approach
Their work articulates printed images, objects, and text through a poetic and intimate lens. They consider every trace, every mark made in the real world as a form of writing, and are fascinated by the idea of a text-world—where the elements that compose it can be read. These objects write themselves into reality in a dual manner: by bearing the traces of their environment and by leaving marks on their surroundings.
Ève explores how objects influence our perception of the world, as well as the tangible effects that intangible structures can have on our lived experience. They seek to engage with those objects that shape our access to the sensory world, to delve into their intimacy and decipher the codes that define them. Through these interactions, they bring to light the connections these objects weave with reality. In doing so, the artist investigates the shifting boundaries between the objects, the images they project, and the marks that ground them in the world—each state fundamentally intertwined through writing.
Residency Project
For the residency, “I will be exploring these thresholds—questions like ‘When does text become image?’ and ‘When does image become text(ure)?’ will guide my experiments. My goal is to blur the lines between text and texture through a pictorial treatment of text and a textual approach to image. This research will culminate in the creation of an artist’s book, printed in a small edition.”
