Turn a Small Object into a Fossil Treasure
Bring a leaf, branch, shell, keys, or a cherished keepsake and discover how to transform it into a fossil through a playful activity inspired by natural fossilization.
Workshop Process (1 hour per group)
-
Coat your object with baby powder or vegetable oil.
-
Press it into clay to create an impression, then remove the object.
-
Pour plaster into the impression.
-
Once the plaster sets, remove the clay to reveal your fossil in relief.
-
Take home your plaster fossil.
-
Optional: natural impressions (like leaves) can also be inked and printed.
Natural objects will be available on site, but participants are welcome to bring a small personal object (maximum 8 cm x 10 cm / 3 x 4 inches).
